This page will attempt to list and describe all the various packaging encountered. The list may be used in various way at a later date, but for the moment it should be presumed to be a reference for the definition and naming of the various packaging types.

Vinyl (Acetate, Flexi-disc, Lathe Cut, Shellac)
- Picture sleeve - The standard printed cardboard sleeve used for vinyl albums
- Gatefold - A picture sleeve that opens out like a book, usually presenting more artwork in the middle. Sometimes used to carry two records, one on either side. Also known as Fold-out cover.

- Gopak - A normal 7" paper sleeve with a plastic tray that holds the CD inside.

- Single Jewel Case - standard for CD singles/maxi's. Folded inlay, CD visible on back. Common in Europe (consisting of two parts, it's 7mm thick)
- Slimline Jewel Case, sometimes known as "Super Slim Jewel Case" - not to be confused with Single Jewel Case. Exactly half thick the standard case, quadratic front inlay only - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_disc_packaging#Slimline_jewel_case (consist of two parts and is 5.2mm thick).
- Standard Jewel Case (consisting of three parts) -

- Double Jewel Case - fits two CDs, double the thickness of a standard jewel case (consistes of five parts, provides ample space for a thick booklet).
