adding suggestions: impressionist (mainly French music from the turn of the century). serial (anything composed in this technique from Schönberg onwards) expressionist (Wozzeck, Pierrot Lunaire and the rest). none of these really fit the existing styles.

both the styles modern and contemporary can mean anything, these are not styles IMHO. just take a look at some subs and you will agree.
