History
Casa Ricordi was a classical music publishing company founded in 1808 as G. Ricordi & Co. (or G. Ricordi e C. SpA [1]) by violinist Giovanni Ricordi (1785-1853) in Milan, Italy. It expanded to UK (G.Ricordi & Co. (London) Ltd. [2]), France & Germany (G. Ricordi & Co. Bühnen- und Musikverlag GmbH [3]).
The group entered in the market for recorded music in 1962 with the Dischi Ricordi S.p.A. company.
In 1994 the group was acquired by BMG. The publishers became part of BMG Music Publishing and the recording company became BMG Ricordi S.p.A. (together with the existing BMG Ariola S.p.A.).
